At St. Anneʻs, Don likes the friendly atmosphere and people, the inspiring homilies, the beautiful church with its stained glass windows, wonderful statues - both inside the sanctuary and outside in the garden, and the peaceful chant music recordings often playing in the background.
Bert has spent 20 years in the entertainment industry and worked his way through his undergraduate studies as a touring road musician. His background in A/V includes an undergraduate degree in applied music, two degrees in Communications, and a Master’s degree in Education, with a 40 hour minor in electronics, and hands-on experience in industrial video production. He also has 15 years of production work as a commercial/industrial photographer for the St. Petersburg Times, E-Systems, and The University of Tampa. Bert, as an accredited PR professional, has experience as
on-air TV talent for Florida Power Corporation now Duke Energy.
His combination of experience and education enables him to provide the proper training for the volunteers who work in the A/V ministry at St. Anne’s. Currently, there are four adult volunteers, besides Bert, who work one Sunday a month in the A/V booth. That working schedule gives everyone a chance to worship and not to have to permanently run sound and video every Sunday.
Formerly a lighting designer, consultant, and lighting showroom manager, she trained professionally at the GE Lighting Institute, Nela Park, Cleveland, Ohio in residential and commercial lighting design.
Ordained in December of 2001, Rev. Bakker served as Deacon at St. Martinʻs Episcopal Church, Hudson, Florida, and is currently appointed as Deacon for St. Anneʻs Episcopal Church, Crystal River, Florida. Deacon Cheryl retired as church receptionist in June, 2020, having served St. Anne's faithfully in that position for a dozen years.
A genealogist (30 years) and pianist (65 years), she is married to Bert Bakker. Deacon Cheryl and Bert have been blessed with three adult children and eight grandchildren.
In addition to her administrative work background, Eddie enjoyed learning how to put to good use her knowledge of woodworking and the realm of construction business and design since 1980. Eddie and her late husband Ed lead a team to re-work much of the sanctuary and chapels, the choir room, the library, the kitchen and the parish hall. Her love for St. Anne's is evident through her service - she loves the people and enjoys being productive from the heart.
